Rory McIlroy
It was on the 4th of May 1989, in Holywood, Northern Ireland, that Rory McIlroy saw the light of day for the first time. His parent’s names are Rosie and Gerry McIlroy, and it was Rory’s father who first introduced little Rory to golf when Rory was still very young. Gerry McIlroy was a passionate golf player since many years and wanted to share this passion with his son.
The great talent in Rory was discovered immediately, he hit a 40-yard drive when he was still in diapers! He loved golfing and begged his father to take him to the course every single day. At night Rory slept holding on to his favorite golf club as other children held on to their dolls or teddy bears, and when other children watched cartoons, Rory preferred watching videos on golf technique. No doubt this was a very special child.
Fortunately Rory had full support for his golf talent, both his parents worked extra jobs to support his development. At age 9 Rory won his first international game in Florida, how many wins he has had since then are almost uncountable. His first golf trainer was Michael Bannon at Holywood Golf Club and to this day Bannon remains Rory’s mentor.
Being from Northern Ireland Rory McIlroy has some difficulties deciding his nationality, is he British or Irish? He claims that he is nothing else than just Northern Irish, but in big events as the 2016 Olympic Games, in which he might play, he will have to make a choice between the two. Rory’s passport is British, but the tension between the two nations is putting so much pressure on Rory that he feels he might not play in the Olympics at all because of it.
Rory McIlroy is dating tennis pro Caroline Wozniacki since 2011, and the two young, attractive sports wonders have become an appreciated item in gossip columns and entertainment shows.
